Lot 18 (complex set-top boxes): Commission recognises voluntary agreement

The European Commission has endorsed the first voluntary agreement on the Ecodesign of products, which sets energy efficiency requirements for complex set-top boxes (ENER lot 18).

Based on its impact assessment (executive summary), the Commission concluded in a recent report that this initiative would achieve the objectives of the Ecodesign directive more quickly and at lesser expense than mandatory requirements". However, it also added that the sector could still face binding rules if it turns out the scheme is not delivering satisfactory results.
